2025 Spring/Summer PAY Swim Team Open Tryouts & Evaluations

CURRENT TEAM MEMBERS DO NOT NEED TO TRYOUT!

Evaluations will be performed on the following dates and times; on a first come, first served basis:
Monday March 24th, 5:45-7:00pm in Myrin Pool

Tuesday March 25th, 5:45-7:00pm in Myrin Pool

Thursday March 27th, 5:45-7:00pm in Myrin Pool

You may choose a day that works best for your schedule. You may arrive anytime during the 5:45-7:00pm window. We will have multiple coaches on deck, and we will perform evaluations in the order that people arrive. Please be patient when you arrive and our coaching staff will get to you as soon as possible.
When at the evaluation, there will be a form for you to complete. This form will be used by the coaches to note each swimmer’s age and take notes about swimming performance and skill. You may not get a definitive answer about joining the swim team on the day of your evaluation, as we need to complete all evaluations to make a comprehensive decision regarding roster numbers and practice group sizes.

What to expect during the evaluation:
Swimmers ages 8&under will be required to swim a 25 (one lap) of each of the 4 strokes. We are looking that they are proficient in freestyle and backstroke. They do not need to be legal in butterfly or breaststroke, but should have some working knowledge of the strokes. At the end of the evaluation, we will ask the swimmer to perform a dive from either the side or the blocks if they feel comfortable doing so.
Swimmers ages 9-10 must swim a 50 (2 laps) of each of the 4 strokes.  At the end of the evaluation, we will ask the swimmer to perform a dive from either the side or the blocks if they feel comfortable doing so.
Swimmers ages 11-12 must swim a 100 (4 laps) of freestyle and a 50 (2 laps) of the other 3 strokes. At the end of the evaluation, we will ask the swimmer to perform a dive from either the side or the starting block.
Swimmers ages 13&older must swim a 100 (4 laps) of each of the 4 strokes. More experienced 13 & Overs may be asked to swim additional freestyle beyond a 100. At the end of the evaluation, we will ask the swimmer to perform a dive from either the side or the starting block.
For families new to competitive swimming: The above criteria is based upon what distances they would have to race for their age group, and why we require varying distances due to age at the evaluation.

What to bring to the evaluation:
Swimmers should come ready for their evaluation in a bathing suit, with goggles, a bathing cap if they have/need one, and a towel for when they are finished. Rash guards/swim shirts are not something they need for competitive swimming, so we prefer they do not wear a swim shirt during the evaluation. Swim shirts are cumbersome and heavy to wear while swimming and weigh swimmers down.

Please note:
This evaluation is for placement on our PAY Swim Team. Participation in a tryout/evaluation does not gurantee placement on the team. If your swimmer is invited to be part of our swim team, we expect that they will participate in swim meets. This is not a learn to swim program, and participation in swim meets is mandatory.
