COACH NOTES:
Winter Season Banquet and Awards Dinner
We celebrated our Winter Season Banquet and Awards Dinner last Wednesday. Pictures from the event are attached to this Newsletter and are on our PAY Swimming Facebook page! If you have pictures from the event that you’re willing to share, please let us know! 🙂
PRACTICE SCHEDULE THIS WEEK:
Normal Spring Practice Schedule (<-- link) through Saturday this week; HOWEVER Sunday will follow the modified schedule below to allow families to attend the ZUMBATHON in the BTC gym (read further below for more Zumbathon details)
***Sunday 5/21 only: Novice 1 & Novice 2- 9:00-10:00am and Junior 2 - 10:00-11:00am
Chambersburg Chargers Early Season LC Invite Recap
Thank you to our gracious hosts, the Chambersburg Chargers YMCA Swim Team. CC is a small team that put together a fantastic, well run USA sanctioned long course meet this past weekend. We are grateful for the relationship our teams have with each other as fellow YMCA swim teams!
PAY had nearly 40 swimmers compete in their first LC meet of the Spring/Summer season at the Keystone Aquatic Center this past weekend! Lots of new long course experience and massive improvements were made by our contingent of swimmers.

NEW LONG COURSE RECORD HOLDERS:
Big Congratulations to Brynn Lewis (13-14 Girls 1500 Free) and Shreya Modi (9-10 Girls 200 Fly) for setting new team long course records this past weekend!!
Spring Clinic/Conditioning Update:
Our swimmers have been doing a fantastic job in the water since early April. Stroke development was a key for the first month, and now buckling down and getting kids of all levels to a higher level of conditioning has been an emphasis the past few weeks.
I look forward to seeing so many swimmers race in either their first long course meet this weekend at GCIT, or their very first meet with PAY!
***A meet email was sent out to all attendees of the RAYS LC Meet at GCIT this weekend. Please let me (Coach Dave) know if you have any questions about this weekend!
Summer Season:
Summer season is also quickly approaching! If you know you are not planning on participating in our summer season (June 12 onward), please make sure to let me (Coach Dave) know so that I do not include your swimmer on the registration lists for our summer months of June and July. Our summer meet schedule is outlined in more detail later on in the newsletter!
UPCOMING MEETS or DEADLINES- Please remind your swimmer that it is every swimmer’s responsibility to clean up after themselves and leave the area we occupy at meets in better condition that we found it AND if your swimmer has to cancel attending the night before or morning of a swim meet, please email coaches (david.rue@philaymca.org and Kathryn.deeney@philaymca.org ) and Kate Baganski (kbaganski@verizon.net ) to ensure the lineups are edited prior to the meet starting.Thank you!
May/June Long Course Meet Schedule & Dates
IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE LOOK TO GET SIGNUPS IN FOR THESE MAY/JUNE LONG COURSE MEETS ASAP.
The UMLY invitational meet is set to be “a closed Y meet” meaning anyone can participate if you are a PAY swimmer, while the Bucknell meet is a USA sanctioned meet where swimmers MUST be USA registered. If you have questions about long course swimming/competition, please ask! You don’t have to be “elite” to be a part of these types of competitions 🙂

6/8-6/11 WSY/HAC LC Classic @ Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA
The latest round of entries for the Bucknell LC meet has been sent in. I can likely take a few more additions, particularly in the 12 and Under sessions. Please let me know if you would like me to add your swimmer(s) to this meet ASAP!! Swimmers must be USA registered to participate.
Signups for this meet are still wide open. Any PAY swimmer can participate. Please continue to commit so we can have a GREAT turnout for this meet!
June/July YMCA Summer Series Meet Schedule & Dates
ALL PAY swimmers who are signed up for the summer months (June and July) are welcome to participate in our “Summer Series” dual/tri meets with other locals YMCA’s. These are local, fun, low key meet opportunities for our swimmers during the summer months.
In particular, Coach Dave and all the coaches highly encourage maximal turnout at our two home/hosted meets on Saturday June 17 and Saturday July 1. Signup Links are below:

OTHER NEWS:
****Sunday May 21 at 11AM-Family Event- ZUMBATHON FUNDRAISER for our Swim Team’s Scoreboard! If you aren’t competing on this day, come on out to our Y and join PAY Mom and Zumba Instructor Christa Kachline as she celebrates a milestone birthday during a 90 minute zumbathon in the BTC Gym to have fun, burn calories, and raise funds for our new scoreboard. $10 donation per participant is suggested during the zumba fundraiser event. ALL AGES WELCOME!
FOUND: A blue Wildwood sweatshirt was found at the banquet last week. If the sweatshirt belongs to your swimmer, please email Kate Baganski.
BAG TAGS and DRAWSTRING BAGS: PAY families- if your swimmer participated in the PennDel Champs meet and/or the Charley Hartley Silver Champs this winter, bag tags were distributed during the meets OR some were filed in family folders. If your swimmer still needs a bag tag and it isn’t in your family folder, the remaining tags can be picked up in the BAGANSKI family folder. AND if your swimmer participated in the Winterfest meet this winter, the host Y provided drawstring bags for our team. If your swimmer didn’t pick up their bag yet, then see Coach Dave. The remaining drawstring bags are available at the Myrin pool. First come, first served for the bag tags and bags. There is no guarantee that we received enough for everyone.
BAKER PARK QUESTIONS: We have been fielding questions regarding the new policy for Baker Park Outdoor Pool memberships. Clarification: if your swimmer is on the PAY Swim Team and if they’ll be outside for swim team training or swim meets, then they do not need a Baker Park Summer Pool membership because they will only be out there for swim practices/meets. However, if your swimmer or your family plans on hanging out at the outdoor Baker Park pools during the times open to the Y community at large then your swimmer or your family will need to obtain a Baker Park Summer Pool membership.
KINETIC PHYSICAL THERAPY AT OUR YMCA for swimmers or family members!:. Our branch and association partner with Kinetic Physical Therapy to serve the needs of a wide variety of YMCA members, right at our branch in Phoenixville!.
