COACHES NOTES
PRACTICE SCHEDULE THIS WEEK: NO CHANGES TO THE REGULAR SPRING SCHEDULE YET
A Nutritional Informational Session for Senior/Senior Prep Level Swimmers was held on May 2 @ 5:30PM- Thanks to all who attended!
THANK YOUs: Thank you to all the teen and adult volunteers who stepped up to help us host our annual US Masters Meet on Sunday! The meet raised over $3000 for our PAY scoreboard fund! We had almost 90 swimmers compete ranging in ages all the way up to 87 years young and from states near and far. We received countless compliments for our pool and for the organized meet. The masters swimmers are looking forward to coming back to our pool to race in January 2024. Thank you to our volunteer officials, scorers, daktronics operator, announcers, timers, counters, runners, awards team, hot heat rubber ducky distributor, cheerleaders, setup helpers, cleanup helpers, and our own pizza deliveryman (aka Coach Dave). A very special thanks to alumni volunteer Jack Florio for helping behind the scenes and during the meet as our Administrative Official.
UPCOMING MEETS or DEADLINES- Please remind your swimmer that it is every swimmer’s responsibility to clean up after themselves and leave the area we occupy at meets in better condition that we found it AND if your swimmer has to cancel attending the night before or morning of a swim meet, please email coaches (david.rue@philaymca.org and Kathryn.deeney@philaymca.org ) and Kate Baganski (kbaganski@verizon.net ) to ensure the lineups are edited prior to the meet starting.Thank you!
May/June Long Course Meet Schedule & Dates
IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE LOOK TO GET SIGNUPS IN FOR THESE MAY/JUNE LONG COURSE MEETS ASAP.
The RAYS and UMLY invitational meets are set to be “closed Y meets” where anyone can participate if you are a PAY swimmer, while the Chambersburg/Keystone and Bucknell meets are USA sanctioned meets where swimmers MUST be USA registered. If you have questions about long course swimming/competition, please ask! You don’t have to be “elite” to be a part of these types of competitions :)

5/12-5/14 CC (Chambersburg Y) CLOSED Long Course Invite @ Keystone Aquatic Center in Carlisle, PA
Signup Deadline has passed- Entries for CC’s meet are officially closed, and meet entry fees are also locked in. Pre meet communication will be sent out in the next week or two!
5/20-5/21 RAYS (Ridley Y) LC Stakes Invite @ GCIT in Sewell, NJ
The latest round of entries for the RAYS LC meet has been sent in. I can likely take a few more additions, particularly in the 12 and Under sessions. Any PAY swimmer can participate. Please let me know if you would like me to add your swimmer(s) to this meet ASAP!!
6/8-6/11 WSY/HAC LC Classic @ Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA (please note there is a hotel block of rooms available noted for the Bucknell meet in Team Unify under this event thanks to Mrs. Bice. First come, first served.)
The latest round of entries for the Bucknell LC meet has been sent in. I can likely take a few more additions, particularly in the 12 and Under sessions. Please let me know if you would like me to add your swimmer(s) to this meet ASAP!! Swimmers must be USA registered to participate.
Signups for this meet are still wide open. Any PAY swimmer can participate. Please continue to commit so we can have a GREAT turnout for this meet!
OTHER NEWS
***Wednesday May 10- End of Winter Season Swim Team Awards Dinner- 6pm-9:00 pm at River Crest Golf Club- Signup Deadline has passed. Further details will be emailed to attending families next week.
****Sunday May 21 at 11AM- ZUMBATHON FUNDRAISER for our Swim Team’s Scoreboard! If you aren’t competing on this day, come on out to our Y and join PAY Mom and Zumba Instructor Christa as she celebrates a milestone birthday with all during a 90 minute zumbathon to have fun, burn calories, and raise funds for our new scoreboard. $10 donation is suggested during the event.
BAKER PARK QUESTIONS: We have been fielding questions regarding the new policy for Baker Park Outdoor Pool memberships. Clarification: if your swimmer is on the PAY Swim Team and if they’ll be outside for swim team training or swim meets, then they do not need a Baker Park Summer Pool membership because they will only be out there for swim practices/meets. (Some practices will be indoor this summer too). However, if your swimmer or your family plans on hanging out at the outdoor Baker Park pools during the times open to the Y community at large then your swimmer or your family will need to obtain a Baker Park Summer Pool membership.
KINETIC PHYSICAL THERAPY AT OUR YMCA!: I wanted to make sure you all knew of some benefits to being members of our YMCA. Our branch and association partner with Kinetic Physical Therapy to serve the needs of a wide variety of YMCA members, right at our branch in Phoenixville!. REMINDER: SENIOR GROUPS: SENIOR GROUPS- including 12th graders and Coaches- please refer to the email regarding “PAY Homework-Notes to the Graduating Seniors”- a chance for you all to send anonymous notes to our 6 PAY graduates (Claire, Ella, Haidyn, Maris, Riya, and Joel) off to college with kind notes and happy memories from all of you! We want all older group kids participating in this easy Senior Send Off! Thank you in advance. Deadline has been extended: Notes for our Graduating Seniors are due via email to kbaganski@verizon.net by Saturday, May 6.
