Girls Swimmer of the Meet: Whitney Kane- When Whitney first came to PAY this past spring, I vividly remember her asking me what our club looks for and prioritizes for development in its swimmers. It was such a thought provoking and existential question to come from someone who was only 12 years old at the time. As a young 13 year old who is new to her age group, Whitney has set herself up for such a bright future in the coming years by venturing outside of her comfort zone this season. Perhaps most important to note is Whitney's desire to learn, to understand, and to grow her knowledge of the sport of swimming. She soaks in every detail, piece of feedback, or word of advice that you give her. To find this quality in a kid as young as she is can be such a rare and beautiful thing. Her future, and PAY's future, are bright for many years down the road because of all of these things she brings to the table.

Boys Swimmer of the Meet:  Nick Zinn- In the years I have known him, Nick has always been one who treats every person he meets with the utmost amount of kindness and respect. His gentle nature is among his many endearing qualities. I often found in the past that he is almost too gentle and graceful when it comes to how he treats the water in a race! With him now being 13, he also is coming into his own by branching out and swimming the full gambit of events. His event program this weekend includes races like the 200 Back, 200 Fly, and 400 IM. He doesn't just swim these races, he is growing to crave these "IMX" events. Swimmers that had humble beginnings as young age groupers, who take these years to craft and develop their strokes, are kids that often find the highest levels of success and recognition as Senior level 13 and Over swimmers. And perhaps most importantly, being a good teammate and citizen is what will get you the furthest in life in the end.

Parents- Did you know new scoreboards cost at least $40,000? Our YMCA is kicking off a Scoreboard Initiative Campaign just in time for end-of-year donations.  Hattie Franz, Director of Development, will be working on obtaining corporate sponsors to carry most of this large endeavor so that our PAY Swim Team can have a new scoreboard hanging up above the Myrin Pool by our season next September.  This campaign will begin this month and continue through until “Scoreboard” funds are achieved.  (Any funds collected beyond the cost of the scoreboard will be earmarked for the associated touchpads, etc. and will stay with our swim team for team or pool necessities.)  Our PAY Swim Team has a goal of $10,000 to help the YMCA with this purchase and with company matches we think we can reach that goal over the next few monthsTo kick-off this initiative and to answer any of your questions, please join us if you can at a PAY Swim Team All-Parents Meeting next Monday night, Dec. 12th at 6pm at the Y to hear further details on how to help from Hattie Franz, Director of Development, and Coach Dave.  Meeting location at the Y is TBD.

Parents- please come in to the Myrin Pool Deck this week to look through the swim team lost and found items on the shelves under the record boards.  The shelves are overflowing with Found Items which may be moved soon to the YMCA’s general lost and found bins.  You may find an item that you didn’t realize your swimmer lost.  Remember- if you label your swimmer’s items and clothes, it is easier for them to find lost items.

TECH SUIT FITTINGS AND TYR PORTAL - Just in time for Winterfest and the approaching championship season, our team TYR Rep will be at PAY on Monday, 12/19 for tech suit fittings. Please RSVP this week by committing to the event so that we can give him a headcount. All TYR tech suits purchased through our portal are 30% off through the end of the year! As a reminder, all Nationals swimmers must wear TYR suits in order to qualify for the Nats Package.

Please visit  teams.tyr.com, create an account and use the access code "PAYSUM25". You will then get access to your custom team portal with TYR. By shopping through the custom portal, you will receive 25% off anything you order including parkas, suits and equipment. PLUS, your purchase helps to support the team as TYR provides benefits back to us, based upon our total sales. Please email our TYR rep Joe Eiden with any questions at jeiden@tyr.com or cell 714-615-3757.
